The MA in Creative and Media Enterprises (2002) was the best career move I made. With a background in Journalism, it was my passion for music per se that was the driving force behind my decision to pursue this course; a program that would help me understand the working of the music business.
CME initiated me into the exciting, unpredictable nature of the entertainment business and gave me the liberty to focus in on the music business through the term essays. Through these essays I could delve into whichever area of the music business I chose to - legal or marketing? Visiting guest lecturers from all over the world, gave us their insight into the entertainment industry. My thesis took me to the US where I interned with an independent record label for two months and did a case study on the company. It was my goal to work for a record label and thanks to this course; here I am, working for my dream company!

I attended the MA in Organization Studies Program at Warwick Business School (2002). The course is tailored around understanding an organization from every angle (the individual, society etc). The core modules are well designed, covering a wide range of topics.
I chose to undertake my dissertation (which is mandatory to complete the course) in an organization back home. This worked to my advantage in two respects; one, it allowed me to spend more time back home and two, it provided me with an opportunity to do my networking to be successfully recruited in the job market. Today, I am employed with American Express (India). Lacking full time work-experience definitely was a handicap but studying the organization in such depth has given me an added advantage.

My Warwick experience can be described in two words – “simply amazing” I came to Warwick in the autumn of 2002 to do an MA in Creative and Media Enterprises.
My course mates were very interesting people from different backgrounds and I made many lasting friendships. The course itself was very exciting and apart from the in-house faculty, we had guest lecturers from all walks of life: from lawyers to DJ’s; from film producers to drama therapists.
Apart from studies, there is so much to do at Warwick. I performed with the Warwick chorus and did production work with Radio Warwick. I worked part time as a Domestic Assistant for Warwick Hospitality and travelled throughout Europe. I spent a weekend with a British family as part of the HOST programme and attended a chill out music festival.
I did an internship at Sampad in Birmingham and am now working with them as a Researcher.

The one thing I would like to highlight about my education at Warwick is its international flavour. Both in academic and social interaction there were numerous occasions to absorb local knowledge in a global context and I learnt to be sensitive and adapt to every culture. The feeling that one lived in a community was also truly warming and there was support at every level. Facilities such as the Arts Centre, the artificial football pitch, beautiful cricket grounds etc are things one has to capitalise on as they seldom fall in place as they do at Warwick. Since I have graduated I have been working as an Economist in the Business Research Department of Hindustan Lever Ltd where I believe my academic work has prepared me well to take on such a role. As a postgraduate student I think the attachment I feel even after that one short hectic year speaks for itself and if I do apply for a PhD in the near future, Warwick shall definitely be one of my options.

After 3 years in the work sphere, getting back into the classroom was a good break from the pressures that tend to build on you when you're working in a young media company (Rediff.com).
Studying at Warwick gave me the time to think about how I see my future career graph, but it also gave me some theoretical grounding to get into a new industry.
I made the right decision by choosing Warwick. Besides having a great international community, a lovely campus and a fantastic social life, Warwick is one of the most reputed Universities in the UK - which helps if you plan to work in the UK.
Right now I'm working at YooMedia, an interactive televison company in product development and plan to put the experience I gain here to good use when I go back to India

Graduating from Warwick in July 2002 in BSc MORSE, I am currently an associate at Ernst and Young in London. Alongside carrying out audit work and dealing with high profile clients, I am studying for a Chartered Accountancy qualification.
So how did I benefit from my degree at Warwick?
I benefited a great deal! Being one of the most respected universities amongst employers in the UK, it helped me secure two graduate jobs, from leading accounting firms of the world- KPMG and Ernst and Young, much before I finished my 3rd year.
Academically, I learnt the difference between studying for exams (what we do all through out school!) and actually learning a subject and being able to apply it in the real world I gained some key skills such as being able to work in teams, communicating well with people, organising work around other activities and most importantly the importance of working hard.
I have benefited the most in how Warwick has shaped my personality and made me a well-rounded, self-motivated, independent and mature individual. It has provided me with a firm foundation, which is not only academic, from which I can launch my career.

At the time of joining Warwick in 1999, I had no idea of what a struggle it would be to graduate and get a job. Lets just say it was something I had never thought about seriously at that time. However, a few months of struggling after graduation and I had my first permanent job.
Of course, Warwick has helped me immensely in making this transition. A lot of what I learned in my degree course is helping me negotiate these initial stages of my career, to which there is already a steep learning curve. Everyday I learn something new on the job, and it’s the foundation that was built at University that is helping me in understanding the technical side of my work. But it’s things like the ability to approach problems in a well structured manner, the patience required while doing so, the respect for colleagues required when working in a team, the ability to work hard and not to be scared of it, and to take failure as a learning experience, that are some of the more important outcomes of attending University. Warwick has done an excellent job in providing me with this precious knowledge.
After graduating with First Class Honours in Computer Systems Engineering (BEng) and topping my batch, I joined
Alstom, a French based global consortium for Power and Transport. The project I am working on currently involves modernising and computerising the West Coast Mainline (British Rail) which runs from London to Glasgow. My work involves analysing, by creating software tools, the designs created by the Design Teams for the systems being developed by the project team. It is also my sole responsibility to work on a full 3D GUI interactive software to be used to simulate the running of trains on this particular line under the new systems.

The moment I entered the University of Warwick, I got the feeling that the next three years were going to be an adventure - new surroundings, new friends and a place where I would have to fend for myself. But all this did not prove to be an obstacle at all. People were very friendly, lecturers were helpful and as for entertainment, I can’t remember a night when I stayed home. This place may sound like heaven to an 18-year old, but work had to be done! It wasn’t just a walkover. Being a part of the prestigious Warwick Business School meant responsibility and commitment. The university experience was a simulation, which when it started seemed like it would take ages to end, but now here I am writing this three years later, and wishing I were back!!!
I am now working for Marc Rich & Co. Investment AG which is a Commodity Trading Company based in Zurich, Switzerland. My area of work is risk management & trading. The university provided me a platform whereby I could prove myself. It laid the foundation of a step into the ‘real’ world.
