What documents do I need to provide?

You will need to complete the visa application, pay your fee and provide:

  1. Current passport
  2. Completed Visa application form - TIER 4 (GENERAL) STUDENT –
  3. MAIN APPLICANT and VAF9 Personal details form –

  1. Visa Letter from a licensed sponsor (dated no more than 6 months before the visa application is made)
  2. Proof of maintenance funds - please see below for specified documents to be provided
  3. Documents assessed by your sponsor (Eg: Mark sheets, Transcripts etc) when you were accepted onto the course and specified in the Visa Letter.
  4. Your biometric details (finger scans and digital photograph, taken at the visa application centre)
  5. Original specified documents.
  6. The Tier 4 Student visa fees is Rs. 11,600/- : www.vfs-uk-in.com

Financial Documents

You need to have sufficient funds to cover your course fees and your living costs during your studies. The maintenance you need to show depends on where you want to study and the duration of the course.

Length of course         Where you will study              Maintenance funds

  1. 9 months or less/Outside London /Course fees + £600 for each month of the course
  2. More than 9 months/ Outside London/ First year fees + £5400 for the first 9 months

You can prove you have the money if you have:

  1. cash in an account / Fixed deposit in your name (or in a joint account with you as one of the named holders)
  2. a loan in your name
  3. official financial or government sponsorship

Shares, bonds, pension funds and similar savings accounts will not be accepted.

  1. You can put all the money into your account even on the day you are going for the visa as long as the statement shows the money. Every document you submit to the High Commission must be in original
  2. All documents that you submit to the High Commission except your academic documents must not be more than 28 days old.
  3. They will consider only the last closing balance in the statement, no minimum balance / maximum balance to be shown.
  4. Fixed deposits: you need a letter from the bank certifying all the details of the FD and this letter should also be not more than 28 days old. The letter should mention that encashment is possible anytime the holder wants.
  5. All accounts shown / fixed deposits shown must have student’s name
  6. No NRI accounts / No current accounts and no outside of India accounts. So if you have a student with sponsors outside of India, the money has to be transferred into student’s account in India
  7. No Overdraft account allowed.
  8. The name of the student on the offer letter and the passport must be exactly the same.
  9. The education loan sanction letter must not be more than a month old.
  10. In case the student has a loan sanctioned more than a month ago, then a letter has to be taken from the bank saying the loan is still valid.
